How Financial Hardships Affects Your Mental Health

Here are some warning signs that financial hardships have affected your mental health:

  • Feeling inadequate about life and what it offers

  • Giving up and settling for less

There is an old saying that money makes the world goes around. Most of us truly believe it but if you don’t have money how can you function in the world of today. So it is true that money makes the world goes around. Working paycheck to paycheck or not being able to make ends meet can be stressful. We all know that stress is an overwhelming feeling, strain, or tension that affects the body and mind in many ways. When you’re not able to make ends meet your mental changes and your mind is being tested. Besides stress, you feel hopeless and helpless about your life and your finance. You can borrow from a family member, friend, or even a bank if you can but if you can’t afford to pay it back then what help is that. We may not realize but money affects us more than paying bills. I’ve seen many suicide cases because the financial hardship is too overwhelming and too much to bear. Instead of fixing and facing it, they feel suicide is the easy way out.

If you are struggling don’t lose hope there are many options for help. Talking to a therapist can put an ease on your mental strain while handling your situation. No matter what your financial state is you have to make sure you keep your sanity and always have a plan behind another just in case one doesn’t work. Many individuals go out and get another job just to overcome the stress of financial hardship. Getting another job is not a shameful thing, we tend to let Pride get in the way of what we have going on. You always have to do what is best for you at the time in order to make your situation work. Yes, it can get very overwhelming but you can only do what you can. Your mental health is very important it affects the mind and body in so many ways. If you’re thinking negatively you will receive negative. Fix your problem one step at a time but believe you will get through it. If you have to downgrade on somethings that’s a good option. You can always go back up but if there a situation presented you have to do what’s best at the time. All things are temporary so you have to act accordingly. They are only permanent unless you trying to stay in the same situation.

I remember there were times I thought I couldn’t get through a financial hardship and it did take a toll on my mental health but I was able to push through and make it happen with solutions and help from family and friends. Don’t focus on the future that’s when you lose sight of what’s going on now. Worry about your present situation to avoid stress and the overwhelming feel of what’s going to happen next. In today’s society, we worry more about material things instead of worrying about living comfortably and having what we need and less of what we want. When you are not able to afford the luxuries of the world you feel inadequate or sometimes depressed. It best to never compare your life to others because you never know what people go through to have many luxuries. I personally love to live a common simple life and have what I need with some of what I want.

Let’s change the way we think to handle any overwhelming situation. Your mental health matters and should be your first priority in your daily living.
